About the assignment
For a leading, data-driven organization, we are seeking an Interim CTO to bring direction and acceleration to a complex technology environment.
The organization operates at the intersection of:
- SaaS platforms
- data services & APIs
- digital transactions/marketplaces
With a strong market position in the Netherlands and growth ambitions in Europe, the organization is in a phase of scaling up, modernization and platformization.
The challenge
The technology environment is historically evolved and consists of a combination of legacy systems and more modern platform components. There is a clear ambition to transform into a:
modular, scalable and data-centric platform architecture
The challenge for the interim CTO lies in:
- applying focus and priority
- Accelerating ongoing transformations
- Creating alignment between business, product and engineering
Assignment & responsibilities
1. Technology vision & roadmap
- Recalibrate and sharpen tech strategy
- Translate business goals into a concrete technology roadmap
- Determining priorities within a broad portfolio
2. Architecture & modernization
- Driving transition from legacy to scalable platform architecture
- Promote API-first and data-driven working
- Rationalizing the application landscape.
3. Data as the core of the platform
- Strengthen data architecture and governance
- Encourage data-driven product development
- Identify opportunities in AI and advanced analytics
4. Engineering organization
- Strengthen collaboration between product, data and engineering
- Coaching engineering leadership
- Introduce delivery, quality and scalability best practices
5. Stakeholder Management
- Sparring partner for board and senior management
- Connecting business and technology
- Creating support for change
What needs to be done concretely (first 3-6 months)
- Getting clear on current architecture and technical debt
- Prioritizing critical platform and data projects
- Accelerate ongoing migrations/modernization projects
- Structuring teams around clear product or domain responsibility
- Setting up a clear tech governance structure
Profile
Experience
- Experienced CTO / Head of Engineering / Tech Director (interim)
- Strong background in SaaS, platforms and data-driven organizations
- Experience with legacy modernization and scale issues
- Experience in B2B software environments with complex workflows
Expertise
- Platform architecture (API-first, microservices where appropriate)
- Data architecture and data platforms
- Cloud-native environments
- Digital transaction platforms / marketplaces (preferred)
Leadership
- Strategically strong, but also hands-on where needed
- Decisive in complex environments
- Connecting towards business and technology
- Experience with change in mature/legacy organizations
